Workshops and classes

Cobweb Stained Glass run workshops in Stained Glass making, Kiln Formed Glass [Fused Glass] Acid Etching on Glass, Glass Painting, Sand Blasting and Screen Printing on Glass. The classes are designed specifically to give students a good introduction to the fundamental understanding of glass making techniques.
Please get in touch if you wish to attend a class, dates for classes are arranged on demand and a deposit of 40% is required to hold your place. The maximum number for any class is 6 unless it is the Acid Etching class which is limited to 4.
The classes usually take place on the Saturday and Sunday from 10.00 - 5.00. During the weekend, you will be given tuition, encouragement, advice and assisted [where required] to make your own leaded or glass piece depending on the type of tuition given e.g. Fusing or Glass painting.

This image shows a small stained glass panel depicting two blue butterflies on a decorative background. The panel was designed by Cobweb and acid etching, fired paint, golden stain and enamel were used to achieve this panel.
If possible, the student should arrive with a design or idea which will be realised in glass over the weekend.
Alternatively,  the student might want to use a design that
the studio has provided.

This panel was created by a student at one of the advanced glass painting workshops. There was considerable input from Brian to make the panel look the way it does.. Brian  art directed the panel, did all the acid etching and 85% of the painting on the figure and the fawn. We all felt that it turned out to be a very successful piece of work.

The courses will suit beginners and intermediates and will cover the various skills of design, drawing a cartoon,  glass fusing, glass painting, glass cutting, leading-up, and soldering. Once the panel is finished, the final stage of cementing and polishing the panel will complete the course. The student can then take the stained glass panel or fused piece home with them.
The cost of the courses is £170 and all materials and tools will be provided. The studio will also provide tea and coffee although there is a cafe in the building where you can get food and drinks etc.

The student who made these painted and fired stained  glass portraits of his grandsons had no experience of glass painting when first attending the Glass Painting Workshops. He progressed to a high standard in glass painting and created these two very successful pieces.

These two fused  and slumped panels are great examples of fused glass made by an artist who attended the fusing class.

This panel depicting a girl giving flowers to a dragon, was created by a talented student and is her first proper attempt at a painted and leaded stained glass panel. She used acid etching, fired paint, silver stain and enamel and was delighted with the end result.
